Google Honors Les Paul with Playable Logo

If you logged on to your computer this morning and you "Googled" something , than I am sure you saw this
So what it is it ? Google decided to pay homage to one of the great guitar players, Les Paul. Les Paul (née Lester William Polsfuss) was born June 9, 1915. He was a talented guitarist and an inventor that paved the way for the solid-body electric guitar and a number of other musical inventions that were vital in paving the way for rock-and-roll and defining the musical sounds that followed. If you have been to guitar center , then you have seen his work , and how he has contributed to the ever changing soundscape we call music.
The New York Times had this to say about the rock legend-
In 1940 or 1941 — the exact date is unknown — , Mr. Paul made his guitar breakthrough. Seeking to create electronically sustained notes on the guitar, he attached strings and two pickups to a wooden board with a guitar neck. “The log,” as he called it, if not the first solid-body electric guitar, became the most influential one.
“You could go out and eat and come back and the note would still be sounding,” Mr. Paul once said.
Les Paul in his own Words

Free Phone Calls Using Gmail

Google recently added the Google Voice in its email-service Gmail which allows Gmail users to make any phone calls instantly from Gmail inbox. Another interesting thing on this feature is you can make free calls to US and Canada (at least till the end of the year).
This features in Gmail is one of the major competitor for most used Skype and Google’s plans are even cheaper to attract people from Skype to Google. As of now this new feature is available only to Gmail users in US.
How To Call Phones from Gmail?
It is very easy to make call from Gmail inbox. All you need to follow simple steps listed below.
- Sign in to your Gmail chat (This is in addition to signing into Gmail account.)
- If you have never used Gmail chat for Voice calls or video calls between computers, you need to install Google Voice and Video chat plug-in.
- Google is rolling out the Calls to Phone feature gradually to US Gmail users. If your account has the Gmail calling feature, you will see “Call Phone” in your top of the chat contact list.
- To get started, Click the Call phone link to open up the Call window with dial pad. When you click for the first time, you will be asked to accept the term of service. You are all set to make calls after accepting the terms of service. Google automatically gives you a credit of .$10 to make international calls.
Now you are all set to make phone calls to US and Canada for free from Gmail. If you want to receive phone calls to your Gmail, you need to have a Google Voice account.
How to Disable “Call Phone” in Gmail?
You can also disable the Call phone option in your Gmail if you really don’t like this feature, you can disable it by using the following steps.
- Go to Gmail Settings. (located at the top right corner)
- Click on Chat tab.
- Go to the Google Voice section and choose to Disable outbound voice calling.
Google Goggles Review

I am such a die hard Google fan. I love the products that they keep rolling out ( eh , not too fond of Google Buzz anymore , the novelty has worn off , lol) Anyways, I never really had a use for Google Goggles , until now. I was setting up my fathers new EVO phone ( stay tuned for a product review that I will be doing on the new Sprint EVO powered by Android of course , lol) .
In anycase , he had the app installed on the phone but couldn't really figure out what to do with it . I installed it and began tinkering with it. This thing totally kicks ass. It is continuously being worked on and upgraded so don't fret, lol.
Here is just a fraction of what this new Google Goggles App is capable of:
- Snap a pic of a restaurant and get automatic info on food , prices , location etc.
- Take a picture of a business card and automatically add a new contact to your gmail

- Ever seen a pie of art work and not know its name ? Take a picture of it and you can find out who created it as well as where its on display.
- Going shopping and need info on a product because the sales clerk is as smart as a bag of rocks ? Take a picture of the barcode and get all the info you need .
- Ever seen one of these ? These are known as QR Codes. Basically they are barcodes with information about pretty much anything you want. If you take a picture of this with Google Goggles , you will see a link to ChristianMartell.com

One thing to keep in mind is that this is still in the resting phase . If you are an android user you can get it from the Android Market.
Try it out for yourself and tell me your thoughts.
Google Docs For Android
GDocs is a editor/viewer for your Google Documents. It is an Android application that allows you create, edit, view, import, export and send documents as well sync documents with your Google Docs account. I am a heavy Google Docs user beasue it allows me to create documents , presentations , etc and access them anywhere I can login to a computer. But what if you need to login to a computer and there isn't one around ? Enter GDocs.
The interface could have been designed a little more user friendly , however once you work your way around it , editing and creating files becomes a breeze.
Some of it's features include :
- Multiple accounts support
- Support of Google Apps accounts (Google Premier accounts)
- PDF viewer
- Automatic document synchronization
- Localized to multiple languages (French, German, Hungarian, Norwegian, Russian, Romanian)
- Android 1.5 supported (Motorola Droid, Nexus One, Hero, Touch, G1 & etc.)
- Import/export of documents and files from Google cloud and your Android device
Why do I use Google Docs ? I use OpenOffice heavily at home and when I am on the tethered on the road. However sometimes its not practical to use. I keep gmail opened up all day ( literally ) So it would only make sense to use google docs ( the link to use it is on the upper left hand side of the screen).
As with all things mobile , there are some limitation to the program. One thing I would loved to have seen a feature that allows importing of pdf files ( ebook reading anybody ? ) No matter though. That won't deter me fromusing this app at full throttle.
Overall I am very happy with the app . I am going to wait for the update that is going to be released to some Beta testers .
Go to the Android Market and dp a search for Gdocs. Enjoy !
Google is Now Topeka lol
I went to google something , and when I got to Google.com , This came up , thought I would share with you. This is what google aka "Topeka has to say about it lol.
Gmail Goodies Part 1
Have you ever gone to a website and clicked on a link that says “Contact Me” or “Email”, and then after a little delay you got a lovely pop up message from windows telling you to configure Microsoft Outlook. That is such a drag isn’t it? You are online surfing and then boom, windows goes rogue, lol. In order to send an email to so someone you need to use another program to send it. I have 2 wonderful downloads add-ons that will alleviate this.
The next goodie is called the “Gmail Notifier”
