Out of the blue , I decided to start a Facebook Fan Page ( mainly to test  the FBML  features , lol ..)

In anycase , here is the link to the page . I created a custom landing page for the site using FBML ( Facebook Markup Language , and allot of CSS.

Originally , the appeal of Facebook was that every ones page looked  similar ( and you didn't have your profile page polluted with glitter graphics like this

The Facebook page will serve as an extension to this website :)

Anyways, here is a screenshot of the layout ..

Life Without Facebook?

Written by on June 1, 2010 in Facebook - No comments

Security ( or the lack there of ) is becoming more and more an issue with people who are a part of online social networks. And of course the powerhouse of them all is Facebook. But with all of the malware being hosted on Facebook ,Myspace or Twitter getting hacked into ( on numerous occasions) , people really don't seem to mind.

When Myspace came along back in 2003 , everyone that it was the best thing next to sliced bread and warm butter. You could customize your pages , leave glitter graphics and all kinds of spam on your buddies page , and later on play Mafia Wars ( I am uber guilty of the last on thanks to my sister La Barbilona , lol) . However as time progressed , it started becoming monotonous , and then 2004 hits and along Facebook.

No bells and whistles. No customized profiles , none of the hoopla that you had to run through , just a simple user interface ( well back then it was simple , now with all of modifications that have occured since then , you almost need a Phd, to navigate through it) .

6 years later  Facebook boasts ( these stats are straight from Facebook)

More than 400 million active users

50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day

Average user has 130 friends

People spend over 500 billion minutes per month on Facebook

Everyone and there mother has a Facebook page ( my father included , lol) . Facebook has become what myspace was at one point – The Alpha and The Omega of the Social Networks. Everyone from Absolut Vodka  to The White House has a Facebook page ( I wouldn't post anything on the White House page though becasue they have a nice little clause on there page that says

This is the White House page on Facebook. Comments posted on and messages received through White House pages are subject to the Presidential Records Act and may be archived. Learn more at WhiteHouse.gov/privacy

Anyways, so I guess this whole rant was to hear from you the people .. Life After facebook . If Facebook where to come crashing down tommorow , what would you do ? It sounds like a joke , but some people really love them some Facebook, so I would love to hear some more on this .

Fake Facebook Virus

Written by on March 29, 2010 in Facebook - 1 Comment

Facebook Antivirus Beta , Christian Martell

Most users of Facebook would know better than to install a program that claims to provide anti-virus protection from a website (why would anyone want to be a part of a social network that has viruses???) Unfortunately, there are plenty of people that believe that some app called Facebook Antivirus could really offer them protection from viruses while surfing Facebook.

This is so not the case. Facebook Antivirus is just another piece of garbage-ware that feeds of unknowing users. Facebook is obviously King in town when it comes to the social networks, and as such is a tempting target for malware creators to lure an unsuspecting 250 million Facebook users into downloading this piece of trash software.Like many other “bootleg” looking software , Facebook Antivirus uses images from legitimate software  to fol users into thinking that they are getting official software. The interface above, for example, is ripped from Panda Cloud Antivirus and the app also uses a Norton icon in certain places. The familiar yellow circle and stethoscope is all the convincing it would take for many users to install the malicious app.

Panda Cloud AntiVirus

Once a profile is infected, the rogue goes to work tagging your photos with 20 of your friends and then publishes the photo to your wall. Friends receive update notifications, stumble across the Antivirus, unknowingly click through, and spread the infection.

Facebook will no doubt shut down the app soon, but it's important to remember to be careful what you click. Less experienced users who need a little extra help identifying threats should check out some of the free tools

The good folks at F-Secure have posted a number of screenshots of FB Antivirus and you'll find information at Facebook Insider that will help you clean up your photos and wall if you've been victimized by the rogue program.
